 | Mr. Schlager is the Chief Executive Officer of The Bulfinch Companies, Inc., a real estate investment firm founded in 1936, specializing in the development, acquisition, management, ownership, repositioning and leasing of office, biotech, industrial and R&D properties in New England. As of December 31, 2003, Bulfinch owned properties located in seven states representing over 3,000,000 square feet. Now in its third generation, Bulfinch is owned and operated by the Schlager family.
Mr. Schlager directs and manages the firm's acquisition, investment and financial strategies. Over the last decade, Bulfinch has acquired and/or developed over three million square feet of commercial space with an aggregate value in excess of $500 million. Today, the firm currently directs more than $500 million of real estate assets representing in excess of $250 million of equity.
Prior to joining Bulfinch in 1990, Mr. Schlager was an associate at Coopers & Lybrand in New York, where he worked in Mergers & Acquisitions, specializing in the identification and analysis of potential acquisition candidates. Before that position, he was with Manufacturers Hanover Trust Company as a credit analyst.
Mr. Schlager is involved with numerous business and civic organizations in the Greater Boston area including: Combined Jewish Philanthropies, Real Estate Finance Association, and the Real Estate Investment Advisory Council. He has been a guest lecturer at the MIT Center for Real Estate and served on the board of trustees of the Fessenden School. In addition, he currently serves on the board of directors of The Wellness Community, Atlantic Charter Insurance Company, and as Chairman of the Massachusetts Chapter of the National Association of Office and Industrial Properties (NAIOP). Mr. Schlager is a graduate of the University of Pennsylvania and the father of four young children.
